Healing Potential: Cannad’Our’s Hemp Products Are in Demand Across Europe
While the south of Luxembourg has long been the country’s industrial hub, the north has always been dominated by agriculture. The resulting range of products is diverse, from a wide variety of dairy specialties, fruits and vegetables to beer—and, since 2013, select hemp-based products as well.

Pioneer: Hemp Cultivation in the “Far North” for 30 Years
Norbert Eilenbecker has been growing hemp in Kalborn for 30 years. This farmer from the far north of the Grand Duchy is thus the national pioneer in this field. However, this does not mean that hemp cultivation itself is entirely new: “Hemp is a crop that has been cultivated in Asia for 8,000 years and made its way to Europe a little over 400 years ago.”
Historically, the main interest of Europeans was initially in the fibers of the hemp plant, explains Norbert Eilenbecker: “Hemp fibers are the most resilient of all natural fibers and were therefore used to make sails and ship ropes, as well as textiles and paper—wherever strength and high durability were required. In Asia, however, the healing properties of hemp have been recognized for millennia.”

Starting Point: Microbiological Research Findings
It was this very healing effect that motivated Norbert Eilenbecker to found Cannad’Our s.à.r.l (Cannad’Our) in 2013. His decades of experience as a professional farmer—a prerequisite for growing hemp in Luxembourg—has since been complemented by the extensive expertise of his co-founder and business partner, internationally recognized Luxembourgish molecular biologist Dr. André Steinmetz.
The founding of the company was based on research findings obtained by André Steinmetz, among others, during his work at the Centre de Recherche Publique Santé (now the Luxembourg Institute of Health). The focus was—and still is—on the non-intoxicating ingredient cannabidiol (CBD): “Studies regularly show that CBD is particularly effective in pain therapy and can sustainably improve patients’ quality of life.”

Focus: CBD Extracts for Pain Management
Today, Cannad’Our offers several different hemp-based products. In addition to four types of tea, hemp creams and gels are also available; however, the main focus is on CBD extracts. These are produced using so-called alcohol extraction, meet the highest international standards, and, according to Norbert Eilenbecker, still offer considerable untapped therapeutic potential.
“Our quality standards are regularly confirmed by the Laboratoire National de Santé as well as specialized international laboratories. We also systematically identify new areas of application for CBD products with partners at home and abroad. This has resulted in increasing demand, which we met in spring 2025 with a completely modernized laboratory at our headquarters.”

International Recognition: The ‘Made in Luxembourg’ Label
This demand comes from Luxembourg as well as from several European countries such as the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, Poland, and Switzerland. The products are available either at www.cannadour.lu or through distribution partners in the respective markets. All products carry the ‘Made in Luxembourg’ label—a decision with good reason, as Norbert Eilenbecker emphasizes: “Our raw materials are grown here, and all further processing takes place entirely in Kalborn. The label suits us and is seen by our customers as a sign of high quality.”
